Gotar
IN THE ALUMINUM INGOT CASTING CENTERS
The cleaning of moulds and
starting heads
The cleaning of moulds and starting heads is often a tedious
and difficult work. Gotar has developed in the last years
a unique process that makes the cleaning much easier as well
as remarkably thorough.
Main advantages:
1. A method that is mild and non abrasive
2. Reduces handling and dismantling.
3. Prolongs moulds and starting heads life expectancy.
4. Uses biodegradable and non toxic products.
In the first place, the process will eliminate
the grease and oil baked in the inner surfaces of the moulds.
Secondly, by circulating Gotar product in closed circuit,
it restores the water curtain produced by the inner circuit
of the moulds by dissolving the tartar and the oxides that
obstruct the multiple small openings that constitutes it.
Cleaning process:
1. Immersion of the moulds for a few hours in
a vat filled with our degreaser, Gotar-DG.
2. The moulds are rinsed with clear water to
remove the degreaser and all traces of contaminated residues.
3. Immersion of the moulds in Gotar-AL for a
few hours. After the immersion period, circulate the product
in the inner circuit of the moulds using a circulatory pump,
until a perfect curtain of water is obtained.
4. Rinse by circulation the inner circuit of
the moulds with clear water.
The duration of the immersion period may vary depending of
the quantity of dirt and tartar clogging the moulds.

AT ALCAN'S HYDRATE PLANT (Quebec, Canada)
Gotar has worked extensively with ALCAN, a world leader in
the aluminum industry. In 1998, the cleaning of 61 precipitator-circulating
systems at the Hydrate 1 plant helped ALCAN save more than
$1M. These savings will recur every year the plant is in operation.
This estimate does not take into account further savings that
come from the safety aspects of Gotar's products.
Due to positive results, ALCAN has budgeted the regular cleaning
of all their standpipes. Prior to Gotar's proposed solution,
there was no known method to efficiently clean this kind of
equipment. All prior attempts had given unsatisfactory results,
either because of their inefficiencies or because the acids
used in these other methods were damaging the pipes and equipment.
To clean this system, the pipes were filled with 60 liters
of Gotar- D and circulated by using a 3 HP pump. After six
hours, Gotar had completely removed the tartar, iron deposits
and the copper oxide that obstructed the inside of the cooling
system.
After the cleaning, an increase in the efficiency of the
system was measured because the operating temperature was
lowered by approximately five degrees Celsius. Gotar's methods,
products and technology not only increase efficiency, but
also help extend the longevity of the equipment.

THE PICKLING OF STEEL HYDRAULIC
PIPING FOR ALCAN
The pickling of steel hydraulic
piping:
This is one of the
numerous uses for Gotar's products. The pickling of hydraulic
piping requires a unique procedure and special care. The efficiency
of Gotar products enables the piping to pass easily the three
microns (3mm) test for filtered particles.
Before using a new
hydraulic system, it is necessary to remove all remaining
particles, oxides and contaminants at the time of welding.
To do so, Gotar has devised a procedure consisting of four
main steps:
1. Following a pre-test
(to check if there is any leakage), use compressed air or
nitrogen gas to expel the biggest contaminant particles.
2. Inject and circulate
the degreaser, Gotar-DG, to remove any trace of oil and grease.
Rinse with clean water.
3. Inject and circulate
Gotar-DF01 to remove corrosion and other contaminants and
to thoroughly clean the metal. Dry with compressed air or
nitrogen gas.
4. Inject and circulate
Cassis A oil, using a three microns (3mm) filter, for two
hours. Empty the circuit and dry thoroughly using nitrogen
gas.
Total time for the
whole procedure may vary. It will normally take from 10 to
18 hours.
Gotar specializes in
the removal of corrosion, tartar, and carbon deposits. Other
uses include, difficult to reach surfaces, particularly on
costly equipment such as piping, heaters, coolers, heat exchangers,
condensers, boilers, radiators, and other related equipment.
The cleaning procedures
are mostly done on site, generally without having to dismantle
the equipment, or in our facilities.
