Pulp and paper
Perkins Papers and Smurfit-Stone: Reducing downtime on vacuum pumps
Depending on the water and production process used, scale build-up may occur within the body of the pump and cause seizure, thus creating downtime.
  Cleaning paper-making machine heat exchangers
Having recently converted part of its newsprint production to an “equal offset” type of paper, a paper mill incurred problems with one of its calendar presses.
Concentrator maintenance cleaning in a Kraft mill
Typically, this piece of equipment will lose a good part of its efficiency when deposits appear on the tubing inside, inhibiting heat transfer. This is exactly what happened to the tube vertical concentrator that was dealt with in this instance.
Cleaning of a ROSY cylindrical heat economizer
AbitibiBowater’s Alma paper mill had a heat economizer that had gradually lost efficiency over several months. Even after two cleaning operations, heat recovery efficiency was still low.
  Refiner maintenance in TMP mills
In the course of time, radiators get dirty and their performance decreases, which can reduce productivity. GOTAR Technologies regularly performs cleaning operations on different types of refiners in TMP mills.
Evaporator maintenance, an operation with high ROI!
Black liquor evaporators are not easy to maintain, but reductions in their performance can significantly increase energy costs.
Tembec - Cleaning of cooling system pipes
Many heat exchange systems use raw water from neighbouring rivers and lakes as a coolant. The advantages of this free and abundant eco-friendly method are obvious, but there can also be inconvenient downsides. Indeed, contamination by organic matter and water-borne minerals can tax cooling system efficiency.

Mining and primary metals
Cleaning of moulds in aluminium ingot casting centres
In the aluminium industry, mould cleaning in aluminium ingot casting centres is a major operation. Water scale and oil residues represent a serious problem for the maintenance staff.
Pre-operational maintenance at the largest aluminium production complex in Quebec
The Compressed Air Center must provide dry, filtered, oil-free air for the whole production complex. After construction, the inner piping surface was covered by cutting fluids and preservative oil, which allowed particles to stick to the surfaces. Contamination caused by welding also had to be removed.
Cooling system on induction melting furnaces
The electrolytic process at the heart of primary aluminium production demands a considerable amount of energy. This creates a need for the frequent replacement of anodes in electrolytic cells, as they rapidly wear out.
Cleaning the cooling towers of step-down transformers (230 kV/ 50 kV)
When first commissioned in 1986, electrolysis pot line 1 at the Becancour aluminium plant nominally operated at 180 kA. Today, it operates at approximately 200 kA. Plant staff noticed that at this level of intensity, oil in the step-down transformers had a tendency to overheat, especially in summer when ambient temperatures exceeded 25°C (77°F).

Dominican Republic : MetalDom - Cleaning of Plate Heat Exchangers
Fresh water is the cheapest and most widely used cooling liquid in the world. But for the Dominican Republic, a country located on an island in the Caribbean Sea, fresh water resources are scarce. For this reason, seawater is very often used as a cooling agent for industrial equipment.
Hydro-Quebec - Successful cleaning of a steel turbine shaft at Bersimis 1
When the surface of the shaft becomes oxidized, there were two ways to correct the problem: remove it or replace it, both options being costly solutions. By using Gotar™ products, Hydro-Quebec made substantial savings in this situation.
California, Watson Cogeneration - Increasing Boiler Maintenance Efficiency
Few methods are available to clean this scale, and none can compare to the solutions developed by GOTAR. At Watson Cogeneration located in Carson (California), Gotar™ products were used to clean four heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs). The purpose of this chemical cleaning was not only to remove lime scale, but also iron oxides.
Alternator group heat exchanger cleaning, Elkem Metal
Insufficient cooling was a concern and GOTAR Technologies was called in to solve the problem since a cleaning operation was necessary.

Naval and maritime
Descaling equipment on the cruise ship SS Sun
Anchored in Freeport Harbour, in the Bahamas, the SS Sun welcomed aboard a technical team from GOTAR Technologies to perform the decalcification of two major pieces of equipment.
Maintenance aboard the USCGC Frank Drew
It was long overdue for maintenance to improve the efficiency of its heat exchangers.

Petrochemical and refining
Extraction unit cleaning, Williams Refinery, North Pole, Alaska
The largest petroleum refinery in Alaska has been struggling with iron oxides deposits in various lines of production at the Extraction Unit.
